It’s a kind of clam of the Corbiculidae family, found in the southern Caribbean. It is exploited for human consumption. It is collected by hand and drag, and is one of the commercially important shellfish. It is very appreciated in gastronomy in eastern Venezuela, mainly on the island of Margarita. In the Venezuelan cuisine is used to make the popular “empanadas de guacuco,” bouillons, asopados, is said to have aphrodisiac properties.
